Makwanpur

Makwanpur is one of the  districts of Nepal . It is located in the mid-southern part of Nepal. It is situated between Kathmandu, Lalitpur, Sindhuli, Kabhrepalanchwok on the East, Chitwan on the West , Kathmandu and Dhading on the North and Bara, Parsa and Rautahat on the South. Makwanpur has occupied 2,426km2 of area with approximately 700,000 population. It is also located on the East-West highway(Mahendra highway) close to the main cities of the country like Kathmandu, Birgunj and Narayanghat. Hetauda is the headquarter of this district.

Makwanpur district is rich in natural resources and beauty. Daman an important area for tourism of Nepal is located in this district. Other area for tourism like Sahid smarak, Makwanpur gadi, Churia mai temple are located in this district. The Kulekhani reservoir is also in Makwanpur which has occupied the most of the whole power planning of Nepal.

Commercially Makwanpur is an important district for Nepal as most of the factories like Hetauda Cement Industry limited, Colgate palmolive limited, DDC are in this district. Nepal's largest Industrial district "Hetauda Industrial District" is in Makwanpur, producing different types of goods like Cement, Biscuits, Cosmetic goods, Wheat flour, Beer, Dairy products etc.Hetauda is a main market for the people from different villages of Makwanpur and its neighbouring districts.

Hetauda is a fairly modern town of Makwanpur but neighbouring villagers are poor and hasn't experience much development and are still considered as some of the most remote villages in the country. The government of Nepal should immediately think about the development of this district for the development of the country.

Wireless internet in Makwanpur

HETAUNDA: The E-village programme, with the help of wireless computer network, has been launched in the remote villages of Makwanpur to provide local people and students with the access to information, education and health services.

The programme was begun in the initiative of Makwanpur District Development committee in the support of Magsaysay Award winner Mahabir Pun. Constituency Development Program, E-Network Research and Development Nepal and local schools are supporting the program.

The wireless network has been connected with Nepal Telecom's tower, stationed at the top of Mahadev Hill.

The programme aims at providing local people information about telemedicine and education services with the help of telephone, email and internet, Local Development Officer Yubaraj Subedi said.

The programme has provided its services to Mahendra Higher Secondary School, Chhatiwan, Janak High School, Bhirkot, Janata Higher Secondary School, Phapharbari, Bagmati High School, Raigaun, Kanti High School, Thingan, Buddhi High School, Hattisunde, Janapriya Higher Secondary School Hattiya.

Five schools that are getting service under this program have also received program that distributes laptop to each student and all these electronic gadgets have come under the scope of the wireless network, Information Officer at District Development Committee, Makwanpur, Ajaya Bartoula said.

The programme is now providing telemedicine services, in trial, by maintaining wireless network between Hetaunda Hospital and Kathmandu Model Hospital.

District Development Committee, Makwanpur is preparing to implement e-governance in the area with the help of wireless network and provided training to its office staffs and secretaries of different VDCs. The Committee is also aiming at providing e-commerce service to farmers of the area for helping them to sale their agro-products online.

Early childhood care and development

To ensure children receive the best start to life, Plan Nepal introduced a home-based early childhood care and development scheme in 36 communities of Makwanpur.

Under the parent to child early stimulation scheme, 4,574 fathers, mothers and care givers received knowledge and skills in child rearing, childcare and early childhood development activities. A total of 3,478 children aged under 3 have benefited from this programme.

Children playing a role in their future

Plan Nepal is empowering children in Makwanpur to become key decision-makers in matters that affect their future. For example, when working children were presented with a project that provided them with goats, they were consulted as to whether it would be beneficial or increase their workload and interrupt their education.

Some children help their parents maintain household accounts and they participate in awareness raising activities such as environment-protection rallies and information-dissemination activities.

Community health initiatives

Plan Nepal is strengthening maternal and child health, and the care services of health workers.. We also conduct healthy baby competitions and nutritious food demonstrations in the district.

Major initiatives address adolescent sexual and reproductive health through peer educators, a community-based HIV prevention programme and promoting the rights of children with disabilities.  Five Pregnant Women’s Groups are providing support for safe and healthy newborn delivery.

Empowering women

More than 24,338 women have become active members of women cooperatives initiated by Plan Nepal’s women empowerment project. The members receive loans from the cooperative fund to set up small businesses – including animal rearing, vegetable farming and small shops.

To date they have generated profits amounting to around US$585,493. Now women have easy access to money, which in the past, they only dreamed about.

Plan Nepal also conducted 36 women literacy classes, targeting 743 illiterate women. With newfound pride, literacy and status in the community, these women are now actively starting discussions on violence against women, human trafficking, reproductive health and child rights.

Computer  Association Nepal CAN in Makwanpur

Introduction
Computer Association of Nepal, Makawanpur (CAN, Makawanpur) was established in June 2006 as an autonomous, non political, non partisan, non-profitable  and service oriented organization . Way back in 2006 it was formed with the involvement of professionals, specialist, manufacturers, institutions and the related organizations of computer and Information Technology (IT) within Makwanpur district and was duly registered with Nepal Goverment, District Administration office, Makawanpur.
After 4 years, computer Association of Nepal Makawanpur has matured from strengths to strengths where in today it represents the unanimous voice of the IT sector in Makawnapur with such a varied membership, which includes from vendors to manufacturers. The association truly represents the multi faceted outlook of the Makwanpur District.
